The Sidey Fund was established in 2022 with a singular vision: to ensure the dedication learned in sports translates to success in life. We believe that financial barriers should never prevent a talented individual from pursuing higher education.
We started this because we knew what it felt like to have athletic talent but face real financial hurdles to get to college. Nobody should have to choose between their dreams and their family’s finances.

The Sidey Fund was founded by a group of former collegiate athletes who witnessed firsthand how financial hardship derailed the academic futures of talented student-athletes. Too many gifted players were leaving high school with no clear path to college — not because of ability or drive, but because the system failed them.
Starting in Massachusetts, we began awarding scholarships to student-athletes who demonstrated both athletic commitment and academic potential but lacked the financial means to attend college. Our board consists of former collegiate athletes, educators, and community leaders dedicated to transparency and impact.
Today, The Sidey Fund has distributed nearly $200,000 in scholarships and grants across Massachusetts — and we’re just getting started.
Former athletes, educators, and community leaders committed to transparency and lasting impact.

The Sidey Fund is proud to partner with the Concussion & CTE Foundation® in support of athlete brain health, concussion education, and long-term safety.
Together, we support the Concussion & CTE Foundation HelpLine for Assumption University alumni — a free resource connecting former athletes with medical guidance, peer support, and critical information for those experiencing long-term symptoms related to concussion, CTE, and brain trauma.
This partnership honors the legacy of Matt Sidebottom ’11 and reflects our shared commitment to protecting athletes not just during their playing careers, but for life. Through education, research, and direct support services, we are working toward a future where sports are safer and no athlete faces these challenges alone.
